Psalm 91

Leading into this week’s class, our leadership team has been going through some refinement and redirection. We have realized that we have focused a lot on teaching English, and neglecting the opportunity to incorporate more evangelism (studying God’s word, opening up time for testimonies, etc). Therefore, we restructured our classes to look like: 15 minutes ice breaker activity, 30-45 minutes lesson, 30-45 minutes Bible study.

September 28:

We welcomed in 8 adults to English class.

The English lesson was about daily activities, so we began with charades with a variety of typical activities someone would do in a day.

The adults loved participating in an activity and we had some great laughs.

After charades, we moved through the lesson quickly and efficiently. The adults grasped the concepts and were easily about to complete the activities. It is exciting to see the growth in their ability to communicate in English.

We then transitioned to the Bible study. This week’s lesson was on Psalm 91. We had one student read the verses in Spanish, then we read through in English. As we broke the psalm into sections, we explained unfamiliar vocab and explained meaning/application.

Also, Jennifer was able to incorporate her testimony of how she was able to pray this psalm over her husband, Cesar, and his family as Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico the previous week. I loved seeing how the adults were able to see how this psalm is one that can be read and prayed over situations that they face as well.

One of the most exciting aspects of this class was seeing one of the ladies who has shared that she isn’t about the faith, volunteer to read the verses in Spanish. (If you read the update from jewelry class, it was D). She quickly volunteered to read the verses for the class. I was so excited to know that the Lord’s Word doesn’t return void, and praying that the words would become so much more than words on a piece of paper in her life.

Please continue praying over the men and women who attend classes, and that as we begin to study the book of Matthew, that they would see the life of Jesus of one who saves, but also provides daily hope, peace, and love.
